Pat O'Neill Alpharetta Concert reviews
Inspiring
The promotional images of Pat O'Neill seemed outlandish and cheesy, so attending the show this week was a random discovery for me. Everybody has heard of the Pat O'Neill, but honestly, it never even crossed my mind to see them perform.
I can say with complete certainty that the Pat O'Neill's show was the most original and bold performance I have ever encountered. Just a little background on me, I have worked as an entertainer on cruise ships, and have seen hundreds of stage acts. I left the theatre speechless, in awe with the music and the brilliant humor.
The music sounds alien and rousing, with self-constructed instruments that add new timbres to the mix. It works: the silences, the awkward looks, the bright colors, and the prop-gadgets. I caught myself laughing reluctantly, and then participating full-heartedly, me, the cynical seen-it-all.
If one is not completely taken with the ingenuity and perfect execution, wait until the end and experience a full techno party with strobe lights, gigantic illuminated spheres, and confetti. I was reminded that performance is a form of entertainment and should be enjoyed by the audience, not suffered through; and that art should not only be intellectually stimulating but also fun. Being a classical musician myself, I wish somebody in the classical world took note, so that our high art is not a dying genre.
